Iron Chef America does Turkey
Posted by mordred on November 20, 2006 at 12:26 AM
I'm watching Iron Chef America at the moment, which I love. I'm not sure if that makes me less of a person or not, but I can't help myself. Today's challenge is Turkey, and they're doing all sorts of great things with it. Turkey meatballs. Ground turkey wrapped around hardboiled turkey eggs and then breaded. Deep-fried turkey breasts. And someone just turned on the Ice Cream machine.

Blu: Marriott Louisville Downtown

Anyone who knows me probably knows I don't really buy in to restaurants in hotels. There's something about them that usually doesn't excite me, as I prefer little bistro-sized holes in the wall like SSK in Amsterdam (which is still my favorite restaurant anywhere, Hanneke) But I have to admit that I had a wonderful time at Blu, the restaurant in the Marriott Louisville Downtown.
I ordered a serving of olives for a quick antipasti, along with a glass of a Pinot Noir that I'm kicking myself for not paying more attention to, as it was lovely. I was served, not with a rammiken sized bowl of olives like I was expecting, but something closer in size to a Bento Box. There were a mixture of Kalamata and Large Green Spanish olives, and I enjoyed every last one of them.
Our waitress was both friendly and comptent, and I'll overlook the fact that her intro and recommendation recitation sounded like a poor script just barely memorized by a mentally-failing high school student. She was attentive but unobtrusive and even went and had the kitchen make some Minestrone soup for one of my dining companions after he expressed how unhappy he was that they were out of it for the evening.
I ordered a Veal Steak for the main course which was served with mixed vegetables including parsnips and an artichoke heart. The steak was cooked Medium to perfection and was wonderfully juicy. Two of my companions ordered the Angel Hair with Shrimp, which both of them enjoyed. In fact, that's a larger compliment than me liking the Veal, as my wife isn't the world's biggest fan of seafood pasta dishes. Our fourth ordered the Linguini Clams and seemed quite pleased with it as well.
If you are stuck in the armpit that is Louisville, make a point to go eat at Blu - it will make an otherwise boring place bearable.
